Friday, December 7, 2012 - Montana DEQ Formalized Trading Policy

Montana DEQ recently formalized its nutrient trading policy. This policy - Circular DEQ-13 - was adopted into rule by reference by the Board of Environmental Review (BER) on December 7, 2012. Public input was incorporated into the final version of the circular. K&A assisted the Montana DEQ in the development of this policy. The policy is available on the DEQ Nutrient Workgroup website.

Monday, May 21, 2012 - EPA and USDA Back Chesapeake Bay Commission's Recent Report on Nutrient Credit Trading

Inside EPA recently reported that officials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) are backing the Chesapeake Bay Commission's report on nutrient credit trading for the Bay.  The economic study released in early May finds that trading has the potential to reduce the cost of achieving the nutrient allocations in the Bay TMDL.

Monday, May 14, 2012 - ACES and Ecosystem Markets Conference 2012

ACES, A Community on Ecosystem Services Linking Science, Practice and Decision Making, and Ecosystem Markets is hosting their annual conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on December 10-14, 2012.  The conference will provide an open forum to share experiences and state-of-the-art methods, tools, and processes for assessing and incorporating ecosystem services into public and private decisions.  The focus of the conference will be to link science, practice, institutions, and resource sustainable decision making by bringing together ecosystem services communities from around the United States and the globe.


Thursday, April 26, 2012 - NACWA Report Recommends Different Approach to Control Nutrient Pollution

The National Association of Clean Water Agencies released a report last month that recommends looking to the agriculture sector to provide more cost effective approaches to addressing water quality improvement and nutrient reductions.  The report specifically references approaches such as discharge trading and emissions markets.  Read more in the news release.


Monday, March 19, 2012 - Lawsuits Filed by NRDC and Others Against US EPA on Nutrient Control Issues

The Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, and other environmental organizations filed a lawsuit in the US District Court of Eastern District of Louisiana and a federal suit on March 13, 2012 against the US EPA to add nutrient removal to existing secondary treatment requirements and establish numeric nutrient criteria.


Monday, October 17, 2011 - EPA Announces 60th Free Webcast Seminar on Stormwater Outreach

On October 27, 2011, EPA will presented their 60th free webcast entitled, "Conducting Effective Stormwater Outreach".  It was designed to help state and local agencies, municipalities, watershed groups and others design effective outreach initiatives.  Archived webcasts can be downloaded from EPA's Watershed Academy website.


Friday, July 8, 2011 - Clean Water Cooperative Federalism Act of 2011 (H.R. 2018)

The bill, introduced to the Subcommittee on Water Resources & Environment by Rep. John Mica (R-FL) and Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV), was passed on June 22, 2011 and will now be considered by the full House.  As written in the bill, the purpose is to amend the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (Clean Water Act) to preserve the authority of each state to make determinations relating to the state's water quality standards, and for other purposes.

Monday, November 15, 2010 - Federal Water Quality Standards for the State of Florida

EPA proposed numeric nutrient water quality standards for lakes and flowing waters in Florida in January 2010, and established final standards in November 2010.
