The site was prepared and planted in the summer and fall of 2000. The plots were graded in July and topsoil was added in August.
The two northern plots were seeded by hand with a cover crop of annual oats and annual rye in late August. The plots were then spread with straw in order to retain moisture.
Plot A to the south was hydroseeded with a mix of typical turf grasses in early September.
The northern plot was seeded with prairie grass and forb seeds using a Truax seed drill in early November. The middle plot was hand-seeded with the same mix of grass and forb seeds in mid-November.
